About Cedar Hill Advisors

Deep expertise in the ARM industry

Cedar Hill Advisors is a boutique advisory firm serving the accounts receivable management industry. We work exclusively with third-party debt collection agencies and servicers, original creditors, and debt buyers bringing focused domain knowledge that generalist consultants simply cannot match.

Our team brings decades of hands-on ARM industry experience — from operations and technology to corporate strategy — giving us an operator's perspective on the challenges our clients face every day.

We are trusted partners to agencies navigating the rapidly changing landscape of digital consumer engagement, regulatory complexity, and industry consolidation.

What We Do

Three practice areas, one industry

Purpose-built for the ARM industry — whether you're modernizing your contact strategy, evaluating a vendor, or exploring a transaction.

01

Digital transformation of collections operations

We help creditors and servicers evolve beyond traditional phone and mail strategies into digital-first, omnichannel consumer engagement — strategy, next best action determination, channel-mix optimization, self-service payment portals, and change management that improves consumer engagement and liquidation rates while reducing cost-to-collect.

02

Technology evaluation & operationalization

From AI-agents to email and texting platforms to digital dispute management and self service portals, we help clients identify, evaluate, and deploy technology that delivers measurable impact — RFP support, vendor diligence, contract negotiation, and implementation oversight.

03

M&A advisory

With deep relationships across the ARM ecosystem, we advise agencies and investors on mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships — buy-side and sell-side mandates, target identification, operational and financial due diligence, valuation, and post-merger integration.

The right partner has done the work, not just studied it.

Cedar Hill Advisors brings an operator's lens to every engagement — built on decades of leading collections operations, deploying digital platforms, and closing transactions inside the ARM industry.

John Watson
Founder & CEO

John is a C-suite executive with more than two decades of leadership experience in collections, recoveries, and accounts receivable management. He founded Cedar Hill Advisors in 2022, drawing on a career spent running large-scale ARM operations, pioneering digital-first collections platforms, and advising on complex strategic transactions.

He has served as President & CEO of a top-20 national third-party collections agency, managing up to $5B in distressed consumer credit assets and growing annual revenues to $65M, while building one of the industry's first digitally-enabled self-service platforms. He later led the US market entry of a global digital-first collections platform, driving 30% CAGR growth over two years, and most recently oversaw a global third-party collections business, improving operating margins by ~60% through technology modernization and omnichannel implementation.

Earlier in his career, John was a Director in Corporate Finance at a Big Four professional services firm, advising executive teams on M&A, IPOs, private equity financings, and strategic partnerships. He holds an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and a BS in Accounting from Santa Clara University.
